This time, Elon Musk has really overdone it with his foolishness. His comments on social media regarding the war in Ukraine outraged masses of his fans and fans of Tesla itself, which also affected $TSLA stock yesterday, which fell -8.61%.

Who doesn't know Elon Musk and especially his controversial and provocative statements on Twitter.

This time Elon Musk overreacted, does that phrase sound familiar? But this time he may have gone too far, provoking his most loyal fans and even Volodymyr Zelensky - the President of Ukraine - with a series of tweets.

Those who regularly follow the situation in Ukraine know that Elon Musk has been on the side of Ukraine all along, even offering a helping hand in the form of Starlink satellite internet, which helped the Ukrainians, especially in the early stages of the war, to counter the Russian offensive very effectively. This has won Elon Musk a huge amount of goodwill, even in Kiev itself, where he has been praised by the Ukrainian people.

However, his recent Twitter posts have outraged many, as Elon Musk has toyed with the idea of guessing the rest of the war and predicting how it will end. He hinted at what he thought a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia might look like.

"A Russia-Ukraine peace... It will invalidate the referendums in the annexed territories. There will be a new UN-supervised vote. If the people want it, Russia will leave. / Crimea will remain formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev's mistake). The water supply to Crimea will be secured. / Ukraine will remain neutral."

  • With that said, he then went on to say that this is highly likely to be the outcome at the end of the war - it will just be a question of how many people will have died by then. It's also worth noting that a possible, albeit unlikely, outcome of this conflict will be nuclear war.

  • Over 59% of voters in the poll said that this was not a likely scenario, but Musk himself said he considered it realistic.

  • Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, put it in his own way, "Elon Musk, my very diplomatic answer is: fuck you."

Although this may have been a mindlessly issued poll of Musk, he deleted some tweets, but even so, Musk has been labeled by most people as a parrot of Russian propaganda. After Musk probably realized what he had done with his tweet, he tried to create another poll asking whether people living in the Donbass and Crimea should decide whether to join Russia or Ukraine. However, by continuing on this theme, Musk garnered a lot of attention, but not in a good way, the critics simply kept piling on.

For example, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, came up with a competing proposal: 'We have a better peace plan. Ukraine will liberate its occupied territories, including Crimea. Russia will undergo demilitarisation, including the mandatory removal of nuclear weapons, so that it is no longer a threat to anyone. War criminals will end up before an international tribunal."

The punch line was then the President of Ukraine himself, who in an innocuous poll asked people whether they preferred Musk supporting Ukraine or Musk siding with Russia.

  • Elon Musk apparently realized that he had overreacted, so he ended up deleting his primary tweet with a poll about the shape of peace after an internet storm.

Finally, Musk then went on to state:

Russia is conducting a partial mobilization and will go to full war mobilization if Crimea is threatened. Death on both sides would be devastating. Russia has 3 times the population of Ukraine, so a Ukrainian victory in an all-out war is unlikely. If you care about the people of Ukraine, seek peace.

Why are Musk's comments devastating to Tesla as well?

Shares of $TSLA fell sharply yesterday after a series of negative events.

Elon Musk's comments came as another blow that fed into yesterday's plunge in TSLA stock. The main reasons for the drop are the production and delivery numbers, where Tesla did post year-over-year growth, but the numbers remained below analysts' forecasts. Oh, and on the downside, Tesla's event didn't bring any new information regarding its most anticipated fully autonomous systems. The only mildly positive news was the introduction of a humanoid robot, which probably didn't exactly wow people at first glance. All of this, moreover, comes at a time when its legal battle with Twitter continues to escalate.

Conclusion

What's your take on this? A few Musk supporters say it's a clear outcome and say he's thinking of human lives and just doesn't want the carnage to continue. Others have then started to condemn Musk and place him on the side of Russia and their propaganda. Personally, overall, I don't understand the main reason, i.e. why did he feel the need to comment? An attempt to get attention? Hard to say... But one thing is for sure, he definitely got attention, even if not in a positive way.
