As the only CEO of a major bank to head his firm during the 2008 global financial crisis, Dimon stressed that the latest banking crisis was not unlike that episode.

"This is not 2008. It's much more limited. There are only a handful of banks that had this particular problem. Eventually, one way or another, it will be resolved. I think people should take a deep breath," he said, arguing that many banks will report good profits in the next few weeks despite the crisis.

Still, Dimon conceded that it is the public failure of a few banks that will lead to tighter lending conditions - meaning less credit for businesses and consumers - and he said that equates to another problem for the economy that increases the likelihood of a recession.

For nearly a year, the CEO has argued that the U.S. faces many serious risks - including war, inflation and rising interest rates - that could trigger a recession. Dimon, however, has never tied himself to a specific recession prediction and continues to follow that trend.
